Local High School Students Excel in 2023-2024 Academic Awards at º£½ÇÊÓÆµ

MT. VERNON, Ill. (May 11, 2023) — Local high school students recently showed their skills in Automotive Technology, Business, Visual Communication Design, and Welding at º£½ÇÊÓÆµ. Here are the winners of RLC's 2023-2024 Academic Awards competition in the Applied Science and Advanced Technology Division.

Elijah Gerke and Leighton Malcolm from Mt. Vernon secured the top spots in Automotive Technology. In Business, Zeigler-Royalton senior Kyle Bailey took first place, while Hayley Pasquino from Zeigler-Royalton and Alivia Cook from Webber tied for second place. Hamilton County junior Desirae Dockery and Woodlawn junior Trinity Phanthavady were the winners in Visual Communication Design. The Welding category saw the success of several students, namely Robby Hayes (Mt. Vernon), Richard Bassinger (McLeansboro), Brett Janello (Christopher), Jerry Prince (Christopher), Kyle Bevis (Christopher), Korben Monteggia (Christopher), Louis Monari (Christopher), Wyatt Richards (McLeansboro), Owen Glidewell (Christopher), and Weston Hails (Webber).

 

The Welding competition was supported by industry sponsors. ILMO donated two hoods and gloves, while Lincoln Electric donated two hoods. BWX Technologies Nuclear Operations Group from Mt. Vernon, Ind. was represented by Damon Fetcher and RLC alum Taylor Ellison.

"We are so proud of these students who competed in this year's event," said Dr. Gabriele Farner, Dean of the ASAT Division at RLC. "It was an excellent competition this year. Our hope is that every student chooses RLC to prepare for their future careers. We would like to thank the industry sponsors for their support in helping make this event a success."
