Crime Fighters camp gets hands-on (standalone photos)

INA, Ill. (July 15, 2015) - Fifth through eighth graders in º£½ÇÊÓÆµ's Crime Fighters Kids Summer Camp have spent the week learning about many different aspects of the criminal justice field. Led by Ron Meek, RLC Criminal Justice Associate Professor, campers have completed many different hands-on activities and listed to several local professionals speak about crime scene processing, fingerprinting, K-9 police dogs, and much more. CampersOnBearcatCrimeFighters15 wSix campers got the full tour of a BearCat vehicle, used by the local High Risk Team (HRT) in Jefferson County, Wednesday morning during Crime Fighters camp. The HRT is made up of Mt. Vernon Police Department (MVPD) and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department officers who respond to various assignments including search warrants, barricaded suspects or hostages, and countless more high risk scenes. The campers pictured are, FROM LEFT, Zach Hamilton (Benton), Leighton Malcolm (Woodlawn), Gracie Eldridge (West Frankfort), Kiera Reynolds (West Frankfort), Brady Young (Mt. Vernon), and Elisa Black (Mt. Vernon). Also pictured is Detective Captain Jeff Bullard, TOP, of the MVPD who serves as the HRT's Assistant Team Commander. Click on the image for a larger view.
