RLC hosts two IDEA Regionals, students advancing to State

INA, Ill. (March 10, 2017) - º£½ÇÊÓÆµ recently hosted two regionals for the 40th Annual IDEA (Illinois Drafting Educators Association) Drafting-Design Competition. Dozens of students competed for first and second place in eight categories to earn a spot at the State IDEA Competition.

The Southern Region, consisting of Carbondale High School (CHS) and Herrin High School (HHS), met on Friday, March 3. CHS took home four top placements and the Architecture Team Winner trophy. HHS had nine students place first or second in their categories. Full results are listed below.

The Northern Region, consisting of four in-district high schools - Benton Consolidated High School (BCHS), Hamilton County Senior High School (HCSHS), Frankfort Community High School (FCHS), and Zeigler-Royalton High School (ZRHS) - competed on Friday, March 10. BCHS took home 12 first and second places, in addition to the Engineering Design Team Winner trophy. HCSHS, FCHS and ZRHS all had a student place, and FCHS won the Architecture Team Winner trophy. Full results are listed below.

The State Competition will be held April 22 at Illinois State University in Bloomington. Several top winners from certain categories in the Northern Region will also receive Academic Awards to attend RLC's Architecture program.

IDEA Northern Region

Intro Board

1st Place: Carson Hill (BCHS)

2nd Place: Cade Thomas (BCHS)

BCHS's Cade Thomas, LEFT, placed second behind Carson Hill, RIGHT, in the Intro Board category at the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC.

Intro CAD

1st Place: Derek Oxford (BCHS)

2nd Place: Carson Webb (BCHS)

Derek Oxford of BCHS, RIGHT, placed first in the Intro CAD category at the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC. He was followed by teammates Carson Webb, MIDDLE, in second and Andrew Dunn, LEFT, in third.

3D CAD Modeling

1st Place: Parker Williams (BCHS)

2nd Place: Jake Clinton (BCHS)

Jake Clinton, LEFT, and Parker Williams, RIGHT, placed second and first respectively at the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC. Both students attend BCHS.

Assembly Modeling

1st Place: Ben Schilli (BCHS)

2nd Place: Kyle Bonsack (BCHS)

In the Assembly Modeling category of the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC, BCHS's Ben Schilli, RIGHT, placed first, followed by Kyle Bonsack, also of BCHS.

Machining CAD

1st Place: Harley Bonsak (BCHS)

2nd Place: Joseph Cook (BCHS)

Harley Bonsack, RIGHT, of BCHS placed first in the Machining CAD category at the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC. In second place, also from BCHS was Joseph Cook, MIDDLE. Ryan Tickner, LEFT, of FCHS placed third.

Architecture Board

1st Place: Lauren Zinzileta (BCHS)

2nd Place: Olivia Sapp (BCHS)

Olivia Sapp and Lauren Zinzileta, both of BCHS, took the top spots in the Architecture Board category at the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC. Zinzileta, RIGHT, placed first and Sapp, LEFT, came in second.

2D Architecture CAD

1st Place: Brendan Webb (HCSHS)

2nd Place: Adam Santor (BCHS)

Three winners in the 2D Architecture CAD category went home with trophies after the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC. Pictured is, FROM LEFT, Avery Potter of BCHS in third, Adam Santor of BCHS in second, and Brendan Webb of HCSHS in first.

3D Architecture CAD

1st Place: Amy Miller (ZRHS)

2nd Place: Dakota Brauninger (FCHS)

Dakota Brauninger (FCHS) and Amy Miller (ZRHS) took top spots in the 3D Architecture CAD category of the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC. Brauninger, LEFT, placed second and Miller, RIGHT, placed first.

 

IDEA Southern Region

Intro Board

1st Place: Imo Madjid (CHS)

2nd Place: Mikala Restivo (HHS)

Imo Madjid of CHS, RIGHT, and Mikala Restivo of HHS, LEFT, placed first and second in the Intro Board category during the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC.

Intro CAD

1st Place: Jacob Catron (CHS)

2nd Place: Mitchell Sisk (CHS)

The Intro CAD category had two Carbondale High School winners during the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC. Pictured is, FROM LEFT, Jacob Catron in first place and Mitchell Sisk in second place.

3D CAD Modeling

1st Place: Dylan King (HHS)

2nd Place: Brandon Tanner (HHS)

Brandon Tanner, LEFT, and Dylan King, RIGHT, placed second and first respectively in the 3D CAD Modeling category during the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC. Both students attend Herrin High School.

Assembly Modeling

1st Place: Lauren Britton (HHS)

2nd Place: Ben Hill (HHS)

2nd Place: Eros Gabriel Pena (CHS)

Kaleb Ewell, RIGHT, of Herrin and Eros Gabriel Pena, LEFT, of Carbondale placed first and second in the Machining CAD category during the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC.

Architecture Board

1st Place: Alexandra Ventura (HHS)

2nd Place: Mackenzie Taylor (HHS)

Herrin's Mackenzie Taylor, LEFT, and Alexandra Ventura, RIGHT, took home second and first place respectively in the Architecture Board category during the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC.

3D Architecture CAD

1st Place: Aaron Howell (HHS)

Herrin's Aaron Howell placed first in the 3D Architecture CAD category during the 2017 IDEA Competition at RLC.
