RLC welcomes Visiting Artist Hilary Remm

September 3, 2014

INA, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2014) - Benton native Hilary Remm is currently featured in the 海角视频 Theatre Lobby as a part of the Visiting Artist Series, an event hosted throughout the year. The exhibit is slated to be in the lobby through Oct. 10.

Remm is a mixed media artist who focused much of the Visiting Artist exhibit on painting abstract expressionism. Some of her recent showcases include the 33June Show at the Old Orchard Gallery in Webster Groves, Mo. and the Apocalyptic Wonderland series at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis.

She is a 2004 graduate of Benton Consolidated High School and a 2008 graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design of Sarasota, Fla., where she received a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree with a concentrated study of painting.

芒鈧揑 was given a lot of freedom of expression in college, and I specialized in abstract expressionism and in India ink on satin,芒鈧 said Remm. 芒鈧揑芒鈧劉ve showcased a lot in Illinois and Missouri; locally in Carbondale at the Longbranch Coffeehouse and Thai Taste, as well as at The Buzz in Benton. My work has been gaining more in popularity, and it芒鈧劉s nice to be showing locally and promoting my work.芒鈧

As an artist, Remm has been awarded the People芒鈧劉s Choice Award First Place in 2009 and First Place in Painting Media in 2008 by Downtown Benton Inc., and First Place in Student Painting Media by HerrinFesta Italiana in 2008.

On the side, Remm is also half of the company Satin + Birch () with her cousin Kari Hammond. Their goal together is to reach out to designers, artists, businesses, and individuals who share an interest in high quality art pieces for personal or business atmospheres.

In her artist statement, Remm says, 芒鈧揑 choose to work on a vulnerable surface such as paper, linen, and satin to construct a duality with the direct approach of the ink. The idea behind my work is not only to experiment with the movement of the ink within itself but to use my art as a therapeutic performance, a release of emotion that is coming across directly to the piece with spontaneous improvisation. Creating a piece in one sitting is significant to my art; I feel that is necessary capturing an authentic immediate expression.芒鈧

The RLC Theatre Lobby is open from 8 a .m. - 4:30 p.m. weekdays on the Ina campus. The exhibit is free to the public. To learn more about Remm, visit her website at .
